Semen Analysis

This test is very important in the evaluation of infertility and it must be done appropriately. Please make sure that you have read this entire page prior to collecting the specimen.

The first thing you must do is identify the lab that you will be taking the specimen to. You must know where it is located (you don’t want to be lost and looking for it with the specimen) and what hours it operates.

Then, using the specimen cup from the office, collect the entire ejaculate. There must be NO contamination with saliva or vaginal secretions. Also, make sure that you have not had an orgasm for 2 days prior to collecting the specimen. Once the specimen has been collected, note the time. Place the lid tightly on the cup and go to the lab. The specimen should be delivered within 30 minutes of collecting it.

When leaving the specimen at the lab, please get the name of the person to whom you gave the specimen. Within a day or so, please call the office, leaving your name, your partner’s name, the lab where the specimen was left and the date it was given. This will allow us to follow up on all specimens and match them to your partner. We will be calling you within 7 to 10 days with the results.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please call the office prior to collecting the specimen.
